Constitution Hill offers charming historical venues for your unique event
As a multipurpose Heritage Site Constitution Hill offers a variety of indoor and outdoor venues available for conferences, live performances, banquets, product launches, cocktail evenings, private functions and corporate events. The site boasts of 13 venues spread over three buildings ranging in capacity from 20 to 1,200 guests.

Constitutional Square (Outdoor)
Constitutional Square is an open outdoor piazza located in front of the Constitutional Court, which is the highest court in South Africa. The space is ideal for large public events and performances.

The Old Fort Parade Ground (Outdoor)
This large square is framed on two sides by the Old Fort Ramparts and on the other two sides by the double-storey facades of the Old Fort that provide excellent backdrops for staged performances. It occupies a central space within the precinct and has numerous access points and circulation thoroughfares. The venue is best suited when combined with welcome drinks on the Ramparts, which provides a 360 degree view of the city.

The Old Fort Atrium (Indoor)
This double-volume prison atrium connects two prison wings. The timber staircase and overhead bridge make this a very unusual and iconic room. It can accommodate 50 people standing, for cocktails or seated theatre style.
The Old Fort Conference Room(Indoor)
The original hand crafted wooden doors lead you into this historical venue known as the Old Fort Conference Room. The Conference Room is particularly ideal for seminars, debating, large meetings and book launches. The kitchen has sufficient space for catering companies wishing to bring mobile kitchens onsite.

Old Fort Courtyards-Mandela and Hillbrow (Outdoor)
The courtyards were exercise yards with two-storey high walls framing a view of the Johannesburg skyscrapers and the Hillbrow Tower. Particularly spectacular at night, the layers of history reveal themselves in the high walls that enclose the yard making it an intimate and acoustically appropriate area for small performances and gatherings. The courtyards are connected by the Old Fort Atrium which makes them ideal for a private event where guest are able to enjoy an evening in a real living museum space.

Slovo Courtyard (Outdoor)
The Slovo Courtyard is the main internal prison yard and is situated at the centre of the Old Fort. It is framed by historic walls of the Old Fort complex that offer a perfect canvas for outdoor projection. This is the very courtyard that Joe Slovo provided legal advice to other prisoners.

The Old Fort Conference Room (Indoor)
This room in the Old Fort is entered via a courtyard and a foyer space, and includes kitchen facilities. It can accommodate 30 people around a conference table or 90 seated theatre style.
Women's Gaol Atrium (Indoor)
This spectacular venue consists of a ring of columns demarcating this double-volume oval space with its curvilinear detail. The Women’s Gaol Atrium is perfect for cocktail events and exhibition launches.

With its large windows overlooking a pleasantly shaded and planted courtyard, this is an ideal room for small meetings, VIP lounge or holding area.

The Lekgotla room, which means “the coming together of individuals to talk, share and debate”, is a venue that is respectful of the historic conditions of the site, it is particularly ideal for a workshops and seminars.

The Women's Gaol Courtyards-Laundry Courtyard (Outdoor)
The Laundry Courtyard is a large outdoor space with a view of one of the permanent exhibition spaces. Located on the west side, the Women’s Gaol Lekgotla and Laundry courtyard are connected by a small central garden courtyard.

Superbasement (Indoor)
With over 1,700 parking bays the Superbasement is perfect for Park & Ride events, underground Car Launches, and location shoots. The elevators from the Superbasment are wheelchair and emergency stretcher friendly. Monthly and long term lease packages are available to corporates and the public.
