Guidelines for large events

For the hosting of large events, the following requirements are necessary. Please contact us by emailing info@conhill.co.za should you require any further information

Certificates of compliance

A certificate of compliance is required for the following:

  • Electrical connections from generators
  • Gas installations
  • Structural engineers
  • Fire retardant draping

Event approval process

Where an event permit is required, the event cannot begin without an approved event permit number. A copy of the event should be forwarded to Constitution Hill prior to the event. The event permit application can be obtained from the City of Joburg's events office. Constitution Hill will issue a venue permission letter once the booking has been confirmed.

Health and safety

All events have to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993, Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act. No 2 of 2010, City of Joburg by-laws on waste, fire and disaster management, construction regulations 2014, building regulations, SANS 10366:2012 Ed 2.1 and associated regulations.

Where applicable, safety plans as set out in the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act have to be submitted in advance with the permit application. Structural engineers are required to certify all custom-built stands, particularly stands higher than 3m, or any structure identified by the appointed safety officer, who must be appointed by the event organiser. Event organisers are welcomed to provide their own safety officer or make use of Constitution Hill's preferred supplier. Safety officers are required in venues where stage construction, exhibition construction, rigging, hanging, etc. takes place. The safety officer must be present for the duration of the event, from build-up to strike. A safety file must be compiled, available for inspection and must contain all certificates of compliance.
