Exclusive preview of Weights and Measures opens at Constitution Hill

From 01 April until 30 April 2017, visitors to Constitution Hill will have the opportunity to preview Weights and Measures, an exhibition that examines international justice through portraits. During this time, selected images from the exhibition will be on display on the ramparts of the Old Fort. The opening of this preview will follow a dialogue taking place at Constitution Hill on Friday 3 February. The dialogue will feature a keynote address by Justice Richard Goldstone, as well as speeches by Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh, executive director of the Southern Africa Litigation Centre, and Kelly Jo Bluen, project leader for international justice at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation.

Constitution Hill:

Weights and Measureis a socially engaging public art project, conceived by Bradley McCallum, that features large-scale oil paintings of defendants, photographs of justice practitioners and audio installations of witnesses and victims.

McCallum’s exhibition challenges us to think critically about the legacy of international tribunals, the issues facing the International Criminal Court, and the voices of victims in seeking justice. This exhibition presents the proposition: can portraiture effectively open a space to discuss the underlying issues central to genocide, atrocity crimes and human rights abuses – and contribute to restorative justice efforts taking place?

The full exhibition will formally open at Constitution Hill on Saturday 01 April and will be open until Sunday 30 April 2017.
