In 2026, MambaOnline celebrates 25 years of documenting, informing and connecting South Africa's LGBTQ+ community.

Founded in 2001, MambaOnline is South Africa's longest-running LGBTQ+ media platform. Over 25 years, its journalism has documented significant moments in LGBTQ+ life and history, including human rights struggles, hate crimes and discrimination, landmark legal developments, Pride and activism, queer culture and community spaces, as well as stories of love, joy, creativity and celebration.

To mark this milestone, MambaOnline partnered with the Thami Dish Foundation to present a month-long exhibition at Constitution Hill from 1–30 October 2026, during Africa Pride Month.

The exhibition, 25 Years of MambaOnline, will showcase 25 selected pieces from the MambaOnline archive – 8 photographs and 17 landmark stories. Together, these pieces will create a visual and editorial journey through 25 years of LGBTQ+ life and the changing social, legal and cultural landscape in South Africa.

The exhibition will explore themes including:

  • LGBTQ+ rights, law and social change
  • Hate crimes, violence and discrimination
  • Pride, activism and visibility
  • Activists, artists, public figures and community leaders
  • Queer culture, love, joy and celebration

The exhibition is intended to be more than an anniversary display. It is an opportunity to preserve and publicly share an important part of South Africa's LGBTQ+ history.

Make sure to visit the exhibition when you are at Constitution Hill.
