Following the declaration of a National Disaster for COVID-19 in South Africa, Constitution Hill has decided with great reluctance to cancel all programs, events, and guided tours until April 14, 2020. This was a very difficult decision to make but the safety and well-being of our staff, and visitors is always our highest priority. 

At this time, all of our museums and venues remain open during regular business hours.

Visitors can tour the historic Constitution Hill precinct with the help of a virtual guide. It is Bluetooth-enabled and available from the iOS App Store and Google Play. The app also allows you to take a tour outside regular operating hours and provides additional information about the precinct’s various sites.

We have implemented extra precautionary measures to disinfect our spaces throughout the day. Public areas are already cleaned daily, but we have increased the frequency of cleaning high-touch and high-traffic areas such as entryways, handrails, etc and are providing additional hand sanitizers at all locations. Senior leadership is meeting regularly to review recommendations and adjust our policies and processes as the situation evolves.

Although we would love to see you at the museum, if you are sick or feeling unwell, we urge you to stay home and avoid close contact with others. Other recommendations from public health authorities include:

1. Wash your hands. Do so often. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
2. If opportunity for hand-washing is not available, use hand sanitizers.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
4. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
5. Cover your coughs and sneezes. Hold a tissue over your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Throw that tissue away and, again, wash your hands.
6. No handshakes or hugs, please. A wave or an elbow bump is acceptable for greeting others.

We are mindful of concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and are committed to being responsive. We are monitoring the evolving situation closely and will announce any further program or operational changes through our regular channels, including our website and social media.
