Constitution Hill intersects two City Sightseeing bus routes

As of December 2016, Constitution Hill is the point of intersection between two bus routes on the world-renowned City Sightseeing red bus.

While the bus's ordinary route remains, an additional route – known as the Green Tour – has recently been launched. This route showcases just how green and leafy Joburg is, and why it is known as one of the most wooded cities in the world.

The new City Sightseeing bus route passes through some of Joburg's most scenic routes.

Starting in Rosebank, the City Sightseeing red bus stops at Zoo Lake, the Johannesburg Zoo and the Ditsong National Museum of Military History. From there, it departs to Constitution Hill via Munro Drive in Houghton, one of the most beautiful roads in Joburg with picturesque views over the city’s tree-lined suburbs.

The route is complemented by colourful commentary based on the area’s rich history and stories shared by locals, bringing to life Joburg’s standing as a diverse culture, arts and business hub. The Green Tour takes passengers past popular points of interest, reflecting on Johannesburg’s past and present.

At Constitution Hill, passengers are able to stop for a while to take the time to enjoy a tour this historic precinct, including the Old Fort, the Women's JailNumber Four and the Constitutional Court. If you find yourself in need of some refreshment, make sure to stop off at The Hill restaurant, located adjacent to the Old Fort. After this, and at no extra charge, you can hop on the Red City Tour to explore the rest of the Joburg CBD and surrounding areas. The Soweto Combo is also available at an additional cost.

“Situated in the heart of Joburg, Constitution Hill provides the ideal mid-point between the City Sightseeing Red City and Green Tours,” says Constitution Hill CEO Dawn Robertson. “We encourage visitors to leave their cars in our secure, underground parking and taking a tour of Constitution Hill before hopping the bus of their choice.”

“Johannesburg’s Red City Tour and Soweto Combo, which have been running since 2013, have primarily been focused on attractions in the inner city and Soweto. With the Green Tour added to the mix, customers will be able to explore Joburg’s leafy suburbs too, making for a truly diverse experience,” says City Sightseeing CEO Paul Nel.
