Creative Hub Inspirational Women Feature: Motumiseng (Tumi) Teffo

Constitution Hill:

I started my business straight after graduating. I was lucky enough to get into the Studio 21 residency program at the Creative Uprising Hub at Transwerke situated at Constitution Hill. I decided to use all my savings to start my first collection. That didn't go to well, I felt the collection didn't represent Offet as a brand, so I had no choice but to make garments I was not passionate about, to recover the funds I had lost from the first collection. Offet is a luxury couture brand created for the multifaceted woman that embodies a love for luxury and elegance. The brand is also known for infusing South African cultures with recent trends.

I managed to save some money from the previous year and made some changes within the brand. I was able to fund my next collection which I was satisfied with. I got a photographer, took some pictures, and posted for the first time in months and got some great feedback and have been working hard since then.

I am ready to buy machinery to help with the production process and create another collection. I’m still learning, so, that means there are a lot of mistakes, however, things are looking up for Offet.

I have so many goals and aspirations when it comes to Offet. The brand is only 1 year and 4 months, yet we have been able to get to this point.

One of my short-term goals is to go into “Ready to Wear”, to dress up the Miss SA contestants 2023, and showcase at SA Fashion Week 2023. I believe this is possible because we made our very first red-carpet appearance and trended at the DSTV Viewer’s Choice Awards 2022.

I need for Offet to be a South African high-end luxury fashion house. For the brand to expand by including handbags, footwear, accessories, fragrances, and home decoration. To also create job opportunities and empower the youth.

Quitting is not an option it's important for me to keep going, I try to come up with solutions as I go because it’s better to deal with a mistake right now than live my whole life with regret. The limitations and the challenges I may face are opportunities for me to learn. Oprah once said, “everything that happens to you is not happening to you, it’s happening for you.” It’s going to be fine.
