The Constitution Hill CREATIVE UPRISING INITIATIVE
The cultural and creative sector accounts for 3.1 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2022, according to a recent report by UNESCO. This rapidly growing sector generates nearly 30 million jobs worldwide and accounts for 6.2 percent of all employment.
The Gauteng Province is clearly dominant in terms of creative economy activity in the country contributing 46.5% of the GVA of the cultural and creative sectors. The share of youth in cultural occupations in South Africa like other low-income countries is higher than that in developed countries and more women than men are employed in cultural work in rural areas.
Gauteng is committed to developing our creative economy as it has a considerable potential impact to support economic growth. The Constitution Hill Creative Uprising Hub provides a dynamic ecosystem of creative spaces and communities from Flame Studios to Transwerke Studio as well as our event spaces. We provide spaces and infrastructure to enable creative networking and collaboration. Transwerke Studios provides creative physical studio spaces; a computer lab; a Makers Workshop and other spaces where creatives can share equipment, ideas, and knowledge. Co-working space has been opened in the Women’s Jail as well. Tin essence the Creative Uprising Hub at Constitution Hill is a creative and cultural space that is imaginative in which creativity can be boosted.
We foster new and emerging designer-makers by developing their passion through our Creative Uprising Enterprise Initiative. Local creatives are supported with product and enterprise development; market access and studio spaces in our hub. Curated. forms part of our local market access programme which also includes national and export opportunities. Our aim is to select Makers we feel have the most potential for brand growth and wish to get exposure in our markets to get to the next level. We invite Gauteng artisans, designers, and producers with a commitment to quality… and a side of sustainability… to showcase and sell their products at the Curated Makers Market. We accept artisans and support emerging artists as well as experienced artisans and artists who create original works of art, handmade products, as well as other unique creative businesses. We look for one-of-a-kind products that show attention to craftsmanship.
Creating a sustainable environment for creative start-ups is essential in order to ensure their success. The market provides a safe and secure space to operate in, as well as access to resources and support. This includes providing access to mentoring, and other resources that can help vendors to succeed.
At Curated., we strive to create a marketplace that benefits both our vendors and our customers. The market provides a unique opportunity to support creative start-ups. By providing resources and a platform for them to connect with potential customers, start-ups can grow and expand their reach. This can help to create a vibrant local economy and make the area more attractive for businesses and entrepreneurs. Our vendors can reach a larger audience and make a living doing what they love, while our customers can enjoy the best of local food and craft products.
The market also provides a space for collaboration and networking. It's a platform to bring together different creative minds, helping to foster innovation and creativity. This type of environment is beneficial for start-ups as it can help them to develop ideas and build relationships with other entrepreneurs. It can also be a great way to connect with potential customers and build a loyal customer base.
At the Curated Makers Market, we offer a variety of special events throughout the year. We host cooking demonstrations, live music, and more. Our goal is to create a vibrant and engaging marketplace that celebrates our region’s culture and history.
See you there soon!
