Comedy With a Cause: Delta Park School Hosts a Night of Laughter and Healing
On Friday, 21 November 2025, Delta Park School in Blairgowrie becomes centre stage for a night of unfiltered joy, as it hosts one of the hottest comedy line-ups Johannesburg has seen in years. The evening features Chris Forrest, Richelieu Beaunoir, Q Dube, and Eric Jansen — four masters of timing, truth-telling, razor-sharp observation and comedy that punches up, not down.
Purpose Beyond Punchlines
Beyond the laughter, this event carries a powerful social purpose. The evening doubles as a fundraiser for Desmond Matlaila — a Delta Park educator and first-time author whose memoir, Eye Captured My Life, shares his remarkable journey through trauma, loss, rebuilding, and rediscovery after permanently losing sight in his left eye during a traumatic incident in 2016.
Proceeds from Comedy Night at Delta Park will help cover the costs of publishing Matlaila’s memoir, enabling him to share his story of resilience, mental wellness, disability awareness, hope and healing with readers across South Africa and beyond.
Laughter may heal, but on this night, it will also help change a life.
Chris Forrest
The Line-Up
Chris Forrest
A founding father of South African stand-up, Chris Forrest has been making audiences laugh since before social media turned everyone into motivational speakers. Known for his deadpan delivery and whip-smart wit, Chris has entertained audiences across South Africa and abroad. A MasterChef SA Celebrity winner, his humour is clean, clever, and impossible to imitate.
Richelieu Beaunoir
Charismatic, unpredictable and sharply precise, Richelieu Beaunoir is a force on any stage. A regular on Comedy Central Presents and Blacks Only Comedy, he blends fearless improvisation with insightful cultural commentary — delivering humour that is bold, magnetic, and instantly memorable.
Q Dube
Nqobizitha Mitchell Dube — better known as Q Dube — is Zimbabwe’s finest comedic export, and possibly the only man alive who can roast three continents in a single set. Winner of the NAMA Stand-up Comedian of the Year award (2017), his résumé includes HIFA, SHOKO, the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, and Bushfire. He has shared stages with Trevor Noah, Basketmouth, and Anne Kansiime, always holding his own with effortless charm and wicked precision.
Eric Jansen
Raw, unfiltered, and part of South Africa’s next wave of comedic firepower, Eric Jansen transforms everyday chaos into laugh-out-loud truth bombs. From township life to tech disasters to romantic misadventures, he says what everyone is thinking — just in a much funnier way.

About the Author: Desmond Matlaila
Born in Limpopo and raised in Johannesburg, Desmond Matlaila is an educator at Delta Park School, a remedial school supporting learners with special educational needs. In June 2016, a traumatic incident during a visit home resulted in the permanent loss of vision in his left eye. His memoir, Eye Captured My Life, traces his profound journey through shock, grief, emotional recovery, spiritual growth, identity, disability, acceptance and hope.
After a serious car accident in 2024 forced him to use his saved publishing funds for essential repairs, he is now raising support to bring this powerful story into print.
